The Crocker Range National Park is 1,400 sq kilometres of primary rainforest and is famous for its diversity of birds and plants, in particular endemic species of Orchid and Nepenthes flowers. It also boasts the Rafflesia Flower, the largest bloom in the world.

Ex-Kota Kinabalu Our 1 Day mountain climb trek covers approximately 12km and is considered a moderately challenging climb. The first 6km ascent will bring you to Minduk Sirung peak at 2,050m altitude. This will take approximately 4 – 5 hours. After conquering the peak, you will descend another 6km (taking approximately 4 hours), until you reach the Mahua Waterfall where you have the opportunity to take a cool and relaxing dip in the natural pool waters. The trek through the surrounding jungle & waterfall area is stunning and you will likely be the only people people. Its truly off the beaten track and a once in a lifetime experience !

0600hrs : Pick up from KK City Hotel.
0700hrs : Arrive at Mt Alab (Sabah Park Sub Station) and registration.
0730hrs : Meet your Mt Guide and commence the 12km trek through the untouched forest, which consists of montane and mixed dipterocarp forest.
1200hrs : Estimated time to arrive at Minduk Sirung Peak after 6km trek at 2,050 metres. Packed Lunch en-route.
1230hrs : Descend to the ending point at Mahua Waterfall.
1500hrs : Estimated time to arrive at the waterfall and enjoy cool dip in the natural water pool before return transfer to your hotel.
1700hrs : Estimated time to arrive at your hotel at KK City (depending on your departure time from Mahua Waterfall – latest to depart by 1700hrs).

NOTE : Require physical fitness.

  • Return land transfer between KK City centre to Tambunan, Entrance Fee, Climbing Permit, Private Mt Guide, Insurance, A simple Packed Lunch and a bottle of mineral water 1000ml.
  • Porters are available at MYR 50.00 per day per 10KG. Other items not explicitly stated.
  • Change of clothes, comfortable hiking boot/shoes, sun lotion, small towel / handkerchief, insect repellent, hat, Personal medication, some snacks and rain coat.


Important Information

Return road transfers between Kota Kinabalu Hotels and Crocker Range Park are provided by Downbelow in our licensed mini-vans on a shared basis with other climbers that day (for our clients only). This is a door-to-door service with multiple pickups & drop-offs throughout the journey. Do expect some short waiting time. We may change the pick up time the day prior to your climb to minimize waiting time so please ensure you are contactable for such notice. Our group rates are quoted with one pick up and one drop off point, meaning the group is transferred at the same time.

The standard pick up time from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu to Crocker Range Park is set at 0600hrs – subject to change (earlier or later time) with prior notice a day before your transfer.

For your shared transfer from Crocker Range Park to your hotel in Kota Kinabalu, after your climb you will have to wait for other climbers to descend the peak before we bring you back. Our cut-off time for shared transfers from Crocker Range Park to Kota Kinabalu departs at 1700hrs so you will not have to wait beyond this time. Should you or other climbers not be ready to depart by 1700hrs a waiting fee of MYR 195.00 (for 1 – 6 person) / MYR 290.00 (for 7 – 8 person) / MYR 365.00 (for 9 – 10 person) (After 6pm is subject to 50% surcharge) must be paid by the late climbers.

Should you prefer to not wait for other climbers that day and have a private transfer for your return from Crocker Range Park to Kota Kinabalu City Hotels only this can be arranged at a cost of MYR 195.00 (for 1 – 6 person) / MYR 290.00 (for 7 – 8 person) / MYR 365.00 (for 9 – 10 person) (Drop off at Tanjung Aru hotels or Kota Kinabalu Airport is subject to surcharge). Please state which option you require upon booking.

Single Supplement transfers are not classified as private transfers and are subject to the standard pick up times and private transfer charges stipulated. Should a single traveler with single supplement transfers not be ready to depart the park by 1700hrs, a waiting fee of MYR 195.00 (for 1 – 6 person) / MYR 290.00 (for 7 – 8 person) / MYR 365.00 (for 9 – 10 person) (After 6pm is subject to 50% surcharge) must be paid.

Ensure you are medically fit, please refer here for the Mt Alab Medical Statement – please do understand as well as accept the ‘Climbing Description’ listed within this statement. It is recommended that all climbers should have themselves medically checked before attempting any mountain climb. If you have a history of suffering from the following ailments, it is highly recommend that you should refrain from climbing: Hypertension, Diabetes, Palpitation, Arthritis, Heart Disease, Severe Anemia, Peptic Ulcers, Epileptic Fits, Obesity, Chronic Asthma, Muscular cramps, Hepatitis (jaundice); or any other disease which may hamper the climb.

Climbers or Hikers will also be required to complete a Climber’s Liability Form upon pick up from your Hotel.

Due to weather conditions, activities may be subject to re-scheduling to best meet operations, as well as clients health and safety.

Climbing conditions

The government authority of Sabah Parks will assess the trails for your summit ascent in the early hours. Should they deem the trails to be unsafe due to the weather they will not permit climbers to attempt the summit ascent. Should this be the situation there will be no refund in part or full for your climb once you have start the climb.


Meals included for your trip are provided by the local guide. The food is basic and probably not what you are used to eating, mostly simple Asian food. We suggest taking extra sources of food such as nuts and energy bars.
